Wasn't it in the rules somewhere where you guys was supposed to tell me how aggravating it is to engrave on meteorite? I might be mistaken  I'm engraving a set of bolsters out of it and it's not fun, Hope somebody doesn't have to make another set of bolsters  :D If yall have any tips for me send'em my way. I make my mediorite gravers out of carbon, carbide, and diamonds. I melt the ingredients at 15000 degrees and compress them in a 5000 ton press. I then stone them for 40 years to get my belly flats, otherwise sharpen them as you would any other graver............Some say it isn't worth it!!....Hope this helps!......Ron S

You have my sympathies Dwayne......Do you find yourself gritting your teeth while you are working on this piece?...Hopfully your client understands, which he probably won't. We are wizzards don't ya' know..

Well Sam,........... being a friend, I been meaning to tell you that, but you seemed to be doin' okay to me. Nobody has probably noticed anyway, as you pretty well dazzle them with with your work. Your "meteorite" engravings look as good as your other work, and no one would know the difference. And as for the other "belly flats", It doesn't matter to me as long as I know you are healthy. Kind of comes with age, and sitting at a bench for 40 years I think, don't you? .........Just wanted to give Dwayne a few rules to follow. Of course he'll be coming after me with a handful of rocks probably....can I hide at your house???Yeaowwww!!!

I am sure by now that this has become painfully clear to you but................the only rule I can think of

Make sure of the material you are cutting before taking a job. If you are unfamiliar with the material demand a sample to practice on before hand. If you don't do this you will end up having jobs that make you pull your hair out.

That's one of the big reasons I have more hair than a lot of guys on here. ;) :D

in the land of Scrolls,
Ray, now that hair comment was a low blow. I've been thinking next Engrave-In we ought to sell bracelets made out of your hair, it will make better engraver's out of the newbies. Kinda like Sampson you know.

But yea, Ray is right, you got to sample them strange materials, cause you just don't know. Although I have cut meteorite twice, and could'nt tell it was any worse than any damscus I have done, just aggravating going between the hard and soft layers. I guess it all depends on which galaxy the meteor orginated in as to how hard it is.

here is one of them from several years ago

Scott, I had forgotten that knife you just posted, I love that piece, you did an awesome job on it. And as for you Ron, I think you're crazy! But I like that in people, no stress! :D

I did get Johnny to send me a small piece of meteorite to practice on and even though I could definitely feel the hard & soft spots in it, it wasn't as aggrivating as these bolsters, maybe it's from a different meteorite. Seems worse than the damascus I've cut in the past Scott, anyway the practice piece didn't give me as much trouble as these bolsters are, Praise God for the Microscope! It looks horrible under it but with the naked eye it's not looking too bad, I have been using more lubricant too, it seems to be helping. I hope the customer likes it. I never thought it would be as difficult as it has been, I'll try to remember yalls advise in the future about taking on jobs with exotic materials. I appreciate yalls thoughts and advise, yall are alright I don't care what they said. Dwayne
