scroll design help

ok well i have finally ventured out into the world of trying to draw scroll work and layout and all. let's just say that i am not having much luck with it all. so i have drawn a few things out that i think are at least half way decent for the most part. so please give me some advice, critisism, help, anything you can think of that will help me to do this better. i know that one of the patch boxes is a little off center below the screw, other than that i can't figure out what is wrong with them, just that something isn't right. and i really do hope that these aren't too horrible that they can not be fixed. in the first picture, i was planning on inlaying silver wire in the scroll around the edge of the actual patch box. and the patch box to be cut is brass.

Hi Nicg.
I think, you lost a moving of your scrolls. I draw the very rough sketch. It practically similar of your but every next scroll continue a previously. I hope it may a little bit to help you. Good luck.

Scroll placement

Hi Nick,

Your first piece of scrolls should move from one end to the other. As you can see the top section and the bottom section conflict with the movement your trying to achieve. One other tip is to shade the background with pencil and you'll see what it will look like after it's cut. This is the most difficult part of your learning, and thats the drawing after drawing until you think it works. Rember the light and dark areas have a balance, so use this tip when drawing in leaves. Your doing fine, keep to paper until your sure that you've studied other works and see what your work might be lacking. Remember, this is a journey that you'll never stop learning from.
