I've got lots of tools etc. that I "engraved" like that as a kid. I still find some with my SSN on them as back then that's what was recommended to ID them, who knew!

My family wasn't that sophisticated; my gramps just painted the handles red. I still have a couple.

Robert: Boldly printed at the bottom of my SS card is "Not to be used for identification". Ha!
