Tips for avoiding chatter

Hi everyone,

I don't have this problem all the time but I'm just setting diamonds into rubover settings and the bur has chattered every time. I'm using a setting bur and a round bur on 18ct white gold. I'm using lube cut for lubrication and the shank is as far into the hand piece as it will go.

Any tips? Thanks in advance.

I should also mention, I have tried a combination of speeds and have tried the motor in reverse.

Maybe cutting too much metal with the setting burr. Did you expand the pilot hole with a bud burr.

Beeswax has actually made a big difference! Thank you. Usually only use that on my saw.

Try using a slower speed (lower RPM) or increase the feed (amount of pressure on burr).

It's the same principle as is used in a machine shop setting, just a different set of tools.

The flexshaft may also need lubrication. Also, make sure the flexshaft is fully snapped in the housing! Sounds like you are already doing these things.
