I decided to bring back and old wedding band I had picked up in scrap that was worn out pretty good. I had thought about using it as casting scrap a few years back but never could bring myself to do it the band is made from sterling and the rope borders were near smooth all the way around and had to be recut but I feel pretty good about it I used some tips from a guy on getting my graver polished up nice and bright to make cutting a lot nicer. As I am still fairly green with engraving I am very open to criticism and will take advice as it comes first couple pics were after backbones were cut but are merely to show condition of the piece before it was finished

Great design. I make jewelry and am new to engraving too. What were some of the challenges you faced when engraving this piece?

youre starting with the right approach by using the ring holder. for a first "crack " at this, i'd say you did rather well. you can practice on the cheap by cutting some old copper pipe to different sizes. you will gain lots of experience without breaking the bank.

That's a fantastic idea I'm sure I can dig something up thanks

It's round on every surface so trying to keep a constant cutting angle was quite tricky much like watch links but worse. A flatter ring would be easier but this ring was more rounded

Way to go. Good to see you posting and asking questions Monica.
It was a good looking old ring and I'm glad TFACARVING recut it and gave it a new life.
Much too nice to be in the scrap pile!

also wanna tell that polishing up a graver really does make a difference—getting those bright, clean cuts can bring out the details beautifully.

If you’re considering using the band for a wedding, you might also want to think about the overall style and how it fits with the rest of the ceremony. Sometimes, it’s those small details like a ring’s engraving that can tie everything together.
