I was able to make it to the Tucson rock and gem show and of course I had to stop and at kent's tools at Tucson Electric Park. Talk about a kid in a candy store. I purchased a 260 diamond lap and a 3000 grit. When I was leaving the area I came across a another vendor selling laps for $10.00 each, being a little skeptical I only purchased a 100 grit lap. To test the lap I first started out roughing in an M42 blank it was quick and had no effect on the lap.
So I tried a CarbaltXD™ blank to be honest I thought it would peel the diamonds right off the surface of the lap. To my surprise it did not appear to have any affect on the simulated diamonds on the surface and the blank was roughed in in just minutes. Unfortunately they are not American made, but come out of India web address www.jewelsnTools.com

Eugene,

Was the vendor with the $10 laps at the Tucson Electric Park? Was he located in the main tent or one of the perimeter tents? I am planning on going in the morning and would like to check out the laps.

Thanks,
Shawn

I have bought a few of these cheapo laps . I like them I haven't wore one out yet. I have one in 3000 grit that I use to polish, as I don't have a ceramic lap yet. I think it works well .But I would take that with a grain of salt . I haven't a clue what I'm doing. I just take what I read here and fumble along . I'm going to get in a few classes here this spring and get lined out and going in the right direction.

We are Jewels & Tools, the vendor @Eugene bought the $10 lap from. We are glad to have found this thread. It's pure gold! :happyvise: Guess what? The prices are still the same and we are going strong! All thanks to customers like you. We know it's a bit (very?) late, but we can't thank you @Eugene enough for your kind words and trying out our products back then. We have been a regular exhibitor in the Kino Show for the past 15 years and are overwhelmed with the love shown to us every year. We are based in India and manufacture all these products in our facility located in a town called Ajmer in India. We'd love all the lapidary artists to try out our products and have started selling online from our website www.jewelsntools.com. Reach out to us!

Just had a look at your site, and checked the laps. Looks like you have the 100 grit lap available, but do you have finer grits, and if so what grits in what sizes?

Thanks in advance.

Yes we do have finer grits #180, #260, #360, #500, #600, #1200, #1500, #1800, #2200 and #3000. You can check them on the product page https://www.jewelsntools.com/perfect-diamond-lap.html. There is an option to select diameter size and grit size on the page.

Thanks for responding. Have a full set GRS laps through 1200, plus ceramic, and cast iron, so the finer grits are of particular interest to me.

Will definitely have a look.

Are these shipping from the US or India, and what sort of turnaround can I expect when placing an order?

They would be shipped from India. The turnaround is usually a week to the US via FedEx or DHL.

One needs to know that there is a $99.00 minimum order if ordered online.
That's true sir. Currently, we have to pay some fixed charges for every export we do to our customs department. For lower order values, this sometimes exceeds the order value itself, hence the minimum order amount. We are working on getting a resolution to it soon so that we are able to remove the minimum order amount totally or reduce it to a lower value.
