I used the Flare Cutting video a few weeks before I got the Advanced Shading video to develop enough skill to produce the 3.5” diameter coaster seen in the picture. The influence from the training is there but I’m trying to not do anything that is considered copping. I usually start by direct copping long enough to help develop the muscle memory. For me drawing the art is the big challenge.

quite some time ago sam posted a few designs for practice work. they weren't to be used for client work, just practice.

Over the past few years I have viewed much of Sam’s work on the internet and have 5 of his Video courses. Any research on engraving will lead to his work I don’t think it is possible to not be influenced by his tremendous work. Is there a specific link to the designs you mention available?
