    stainless steel for engraving

Yeah the vice. I got it so that the vice is almost entirely closed so that the plate is supported across almost the whole thing.

    stainless steel for engraving

Thanks, I'll give this a try. I'm fairly confident there is no vibration at all from the plate. It's 1.5mm and I secure it pretty well in the vice. Mostly I use a 55 degree face, but will try the steeper tip, I've also ordered some glensteel to see if they are less prone to breaking.

    stainless steel for engraving

I have managed to procure pretty cheaply a number of practice plates in 304 stainless steel. But it is absolutely destroying my gravers... Any advice? I have seen some people say to avoid it like the plague and some say it's no problem at all and now I'm am just very confused. For reference, I...

Hi, I see a few of the pieces you have here are stainless steel. How are you engraving on them? I have some stainless steel for practice, but it is just destroying my gravers...

    English fine scroll instructional set

Hello Marcus, I am a beginner engraver and so far self taught. I would like to get into gun engraving and understand that Fine English Scroll is an absolute must to learn. How much would your instructible DVD be and how would I go about getting a hold of a copy? Thank you in advance. Ben.

    Help, please: Engraving Apprenticeships?

Me too John. To be fair, the engraving community seems like a really nice bunch of people from what I've seen so far. Also, people seem much more open to sharing information and helping others nowadays based on interviews I've seen with other engravers (notably Layne Zuelke with GRS). Thank you...

    Help, please: Engraving Apprenticeships?

Thanks Pete, no I hadn't considered them. I generally have stayed away from London as I can't really afford to relocate to there, it's just too expensive. But maybe it is worth more consideration, I will look into it, thank you.

    Help, please: Engraving Apprenticeships?

Thank you very much, there looks like some great advice Thank you so much, there's loads of great advice in here that you've obviously taken the time to think about and compile. I really appreciate it. Funnily enough, I have actually started working on my lettering somewhat and although I don't...

    Help, please: Engraving Apprenticeships?

Hello all, I am new to here and relatively new to engraving, though I have been a hobby metal worker all my life. I find myself now at 34 years old at a bit of a crossroads in my life. I have about 3 years ago finished an HND at the school of jewellery at Birmingham, England. During my time...

    Cutting on concave surfaces

Thanks Mike, that's really interesting! Any idea if it would work in the GRS system?

    Cutting on concave surfaces

Hello, I am pretty new to this and am so far self taught. I am having trouble at the minute though with trying to cut some lettering on the inside of a bangle. I am using a flat graver with a 45 degree face and a 15 degree heel (which I curve slightly down to about 5 degrees) for the bright...
