    Cracks in sheet metal

I'm don't comment very often but I'll put my two cents in here. Background first - I make my living out of jewellery, for 40 years. I try to recycle as much as possible due to the dollar savings. Similar to you I've had problems but much more problems with silver than gold. But even though...

Commercial post/announcement: my custom jewelry business

I find it hard to critique another's work. I keep thinking, "That's not how I'd do it". But that's not fair. So let's talk about the method of selling. I first registered a jewellery making business in 1978. Work out of my shop in regional Victoria, Australia (still an American citizen...

Arm Fatigue From Sharpening. My Fix.

Been a professional jeweller for more years than I want to count. Just starting out the engraving side line. I actually enjoy the sharpening part but gee the TIME when working from blanks. Haven't got around to getting a power hone up and working yet which left using my hands on the diamond...

    You Want Chips With That?

I’ve been a professional jeweller for 40 plus years. Taking on engraving as a side hobby, just an interest really. In my shop, I’ve a two-person workbench where I’ll be doing my engraving. Being a show room, I’ve also got carpet on the floor. Yes, even under my bench. It’s not that much of a...

    Career change...

Hey Bob, I'm on the other side of the world but still have some 'idea' on your question. I've been a crafting jeweller for 45 years. Made a good living out of it too. Dave has indicated a few truths about this type of career. The bottom line is finding your way of finding clients. We all...

Question: Simple question on using Lindsay's templates with GRS gravers. (Again)

Got that little sucker out! What's holding that insert is a grub screw. Takes a 1.3mm allen key to remove it. While the GRS quick change adapter fits like a glove, I think I'll make my own insert and work from that point. You smart guys would probably have just bought the right piece in...

Question: Simple question on using Lindsay's templates with GRS gravers. (Again)

Thanks mate for the reply. Yes, possible but there are issues there. 1) getting the index correct on every graver. 2) the female accepts 2.32mm while the round shaft is 3.17mm. Meaning I'd have to remove a total of .85mm of material. I'm not sure how that would affect the stability of the...

Question: Simple question on using Lindsay's templates with GRS gravers. (Again)

I’m a 40 year veteran in crafting jewellery but a novice with engraving. Also first time poster. I’ve read the posts on using Steve’s templates with GRS gravers but haven’t see this question. “I’m looking at the metal fixture in one hand and the round GRS gravers in the other. Not Good! How to...
