    Critique Request First scroll

Top effort. I see a lot of influnce from 3D work like wood carving in that drawing. I like a lot of what I see. Most of the time when I draw, all or most of the elements at least, make it all the way to touching the scroll in the middle, whereas lots of your leaves stop short. I like the...

How to colour/lacquer/paint hand engraved watch dials/guilloche

I watched a youtube video showing heating up brass filings in a cup with a watch hand sitting on top to get a really controlled heat colouring of the hand. probably not exactly what you were looking for. I'd love to know more about how to colour work, I've seen some amazingly coloured gun...

    Question: Trapezius Pain While Engraving

I don't know if any of us would not experience pain from engraving. Does anyone get away with it? I'm yet to find exercises that work (but I've been to physios and not done what they've said so...) Does anyone have exercises they do that fixes engraving related pain? Want to share? I...

    Ready to try some metal?

some tips Turn the paper over and over and over and over while drawing and your scrolls will be better shaped. Most people's vision shows a circle as being slightly oval either heightways or sideway, that and you're looking at your work from an angle most of the time... for many reasons...

    Lindsay border scribe

I bought the lindsay scriber jigger... I didn't find it particularly easy to use to get great results compared to starret dividers. I think them or maybe the jewellers ones would be my top recommendations, starret being the cheaper of the two. Who's the jeweller/stone setter who makes his own...

    stainless steel for engraving

Edge quenched w2 buttery and beautiful. 416 great. 440c before heat treat is very nice. I should keep a record of everything I do. Some titanium is beautiful, some is agonizing... I forget which is which.

Critique Request Not quite bulino I think?

    Fantastic work, ink splatter worked.

Trying to get into bulino engraving

I'd like to get as good at bulino as Firmo Fracassi. That's a very tall order I know. I do tend to aim high, but if I don't I won't see how good I can get. How do I get from where I am to there? I do have the two DeCamillis dvds where he does bulino of grass and reeds and water and birds...

What graver steels for what jobs?

I just thought I'd add to this thread that I've heard from a few folk that M48 is great for engraving titanium (chipping out less than carbide). available here https://www.airgraver.com/graver-blanks.htm only I think as it's one of Lindsay's steels and I don't think anyone retails for him as yet.

    Critique request Celtic High Cross

I love it. My first thoughts for critique were that sanding after engraving is ok (I know a contested subject, but the deformation around cuts that catches the light bothers me as does surafce scuffing); and that the branch stems looked a bit thick compared to the leaves hanging off them, but...

    Gustavo Aragao work/knives

Thats very good 'beginner engraving'. Your tool control is good. People used to often tell me to go into tatoos, I'd reply, "I don't like squirming canvases".
