Turntable use ... i dont get it :(

Roger, it is possible I made my vise years ago from a ball from a gold shot mill. In my impatience to start using it I never put in the centering for the jaws just slide the jaws to where the part is centered in the scope and tighten jaw screw. The jaws lock into the dovetails and hold piece...

handengraver thanks I removed the barrel without any problems. The threads cutting and gaulding the brass was my concern Henry cut flat top threads to help avoid that. The barrel is not that tight compared to a 150 year old 1873 Winchester. I have equipment to support the receiver this is not my...

Thanks everyone the barrel was easy to remove I didn't think it would be tight but never hurts to ask someone with experience. The brass cuts ok but it is gummy and inconstant but not bad.

JJ thanks I remove barrels all the time but it's on 100 to 150 year old Winchesters. I was just wondering how tight the Henry barrels are. Thanks again,Leland

I have 3 Henry brass frame big boys to do I don't have any experience with Henrys. How does the brass cut? is it crumbly. How hard is it to get the barrel off? They will have a lot of engraving and I don't want to fight the barrel. Thanks,Leland

Nice JJ, what is your geometry on the square graver. I thought I was the only 1 to jam a toothpick in to hold the graver.

    Avoiding oxidation/rust on mild steels

AO84 I am using rustoleum specialty lacquer high luster right now but have used valspar high luster and got good results. Polyurethane will fill the cuts don't think you will like it. good luck,Leland

    Avoiding oxidation/rust on mild steels

On engraved and color case hardened guns lacquer is applied to protect the colors. I don't know if it would do what you want but you could try it if you don't like it wipe away with laquer thinner.
