Carbide graver blanks are the hardest we use. Are you chisel engraving or rotary engraving or ...? What is the afore mentioned... knife... gun? maybe pictures could help. Whare are you working on and what are you trying to achieve?
That is good work sir. I think knifepurveyors require the knives to be handmade unless that's changed over the years. I've often thought of trying them but am yet to buy a handmade knife, engrave it and ask them to ty to sell it. I find it remarkable how much some of their engraved knives are...
I often wonder at the folk who say they just draw the design straight onto the metal, I admit I'm transferring too. It's hard to photograph bulino. I get the light on it... tap on the engraving (on my phone) and then drag the light balance so the whole thing is much darker. Keep going and...
You sure fancied that up a bit. Can not wait to see the engraving I'll wager is coming.
Someone was asking about drawing programs... I'm using concepts on my phone and finding it decent. Your artworks are incredible, at first I hadn't realized they were not actual engraved pieces.
I am not sure how much more ill do to this. I am very keen if anyone has any pointers to improve it without sanding all my efforts off. Id rather have the piece that i can show students and say do this, not this....
I then got into concepts and using a spray spatter brush and white paint and darker paint drew this as my guide for today's work. (I truly don't know how to salvage left cats face... I tried to use lines to create the fur but it needed to be dots given he's so small. I also made deep cuts for...
after another full day of work from where I lost enthusiasm a year or more ago I got a copper background with only a few small patches where I'd punched too hard or on an angle. it's only for me so that ok
I tried to undercut the border then make teeth... this didn't quite work. several sections needed to be reapplied several times. lots of wire falling to the floor, very clumsy. some sections I actually dug a round channel with a bur and used a pointy bulino tool to add teeth as the...
so process wise I've outlined the knife by taking a picture of it and getting my artwork onto different layers on concepts which has measuring tools and canvas sizes and is a bit tricky to print to actual size on but it can be done. then I did a damar varnish and laser printer on baking paper...
I guess if you have criss-crossed it with a v first you've got a depth gauge and no reason not to start in the middle. I'll give it a go... I'm curious.
I've found it easier in this larger ring made of stainless to not dive to China with the flat and to not marr the scrolls. I really struggle in soft metals. are there any tricks?
