Not sure about rhodium but for gold plating on bronze, you might want to nickel plate it first - the results will be much better.

You will probably get many opinions here. I've used Busch brand carbide burs the most, they work very well. Also have used Lynx brand and those are OK but not for everything. Technique has a line of burs that is on cheaper side, I've only used their saw burs (not carbide) and so far these hold...

Yes, I believe that is 7.0 in torque. Adapters are just sliding in and out, no tools to change them. For my work it is great as I switch between burrs of FG (1/16") and 1/8" very often. The MDI Woodcarving site included both adapters so there was no added cost. I've had no issues when working...

Dani Girl, Another one you might want to look at is brushless micromotor, RAM Revolution 50. I purchased mine from US based woodcarving supply house, link below but you can get it directly from Ram Products etc. I have a feeling it is very similar to Saeshin product...

You can also 'sacrifice' one or two (or more) gravers and grind out an area immediately behind face/heel. I use this a lot when voiding tiny areas to be enamelled (where deeper voiding is needed). Easy to do with round diamond burr - you can grind 'back' as far as you need to not risk running...

Anybody know how to patina nickel?

Jax "pewter black" works on nickel as well.

    Are these gravers?

In the last photo I also think there are two millgrain tools (on the right), burnisher (2nd from left) and possibly round graver (1st from the left).

Quality of engraving on base of silver box?

Beautiful pattern with moiré-like effect on the damaged box, this was most likely engine turned pattern.

Quality of engraving on base of silver box?

Thanks Allan, glad to hear someone found it interesting! Enameling is quite a big field and so 'organically' tied to engraving in it's roots.

Quality of engraving on base of silver box?

Very nice examples of various enameling techniques. There's been a bit of resurgance of enameling work interest in the recent years. Previously, the craft itself was only being taught in relatively small circles of jewelers/enamelers but with the www - many people can get started relatively...

Quality of engraving on base of silver box?

Guido, Very nice box! Thanks for detailed photos. I am quite certain it is predominantly champleve method with the figure and clouds either being left purposely raised higher (as in less material removed) or being repousse'd from the back and then sculpted and engraved to give desired details...

Quality of engraving on base of silver box?

Guido, to my eye this has a feel of custom made piece or at least a combination of both - standard production and custom aspects. From the enameller/engraver point of view - if you post image of details of the enamelling, especially seeing how textures covered by enamels were imparted - this...

Of the two orders that are available in UK (or the Commonwealth countries) to the 'commoners' with the Knighthood status, the Royal Victorian Order is an award for those who performed personal services to the sovereign or to members of the Royal family. In order to get to the Knighthood, he...

Denatured alcohol to remove shellac destroys the polish

You are complicating things. After you are done ALL the work, use brass brush with plenty of dish-washing soap to clean and brighten your cuts. Rinse thoroughly under plenty of running water. Dry with lint free cloth and proceed to enameling. You can also use Nitric acid to clean your silver...

Congrats! Your black lines turned out really well. These often will 'bleed' into the white during multiple firings.

Hi, I am a bit hesitant since it is 18Ga - I use fine silver and occasionally sterling for creating enamelled things and 18ga is just a touch too thin for champleve technique I prefer. I am trying to think what I would do with it . What's your best price shipped to Canada (postal code: K0K...
