    Question: fusing gold to steel

Yes I have laser welded some different metals together. Silver and Titanium is very difficult. Silver requires high energy and the Ti oxidizes easily. I could not get a strong bond. Steel and Gold is doable. If you use argon to shield then an even better weld can be made. Steel reacts very...

Question before buying a grs airsystem

The Jura artgraver is a copy of the idea from Sergey Waltman: If you search on Youtube for Homemade graver machine. You will find loads of videos about how to make your own. Jura has combined it with a Saeyang micromotor inside.

    micromotor

Personally I find that the flex-shaft gets heavy after using for sometime. Because you have to push and pull the whole flex-shaft . With the micromotor all the weight is in your hand. I have an NSK and it is really nice to work with when I practice my stone-setting. Csontmetzo, look in other...

    Need some guidance

GRS blanks are shorter. They are meant for GRS style handpieces. You need longer/traditional gravers. Or buy GRS handpiece, they have them also for push engraving. Or get a brass rod. Drill hole in it the size of your graver. Then glue it in there. And put the brass rod in to the handle. Cut...

    Fixturing trick

Round is nice for repositioning the working area to the centre of the vise. Also if you make some saw grooves about 1mm deep in to the top (cross hatched) then glue or thermolock will have something to grip.

    Anyone else have dry eye?

You need to check the humidity in your room/workspace. Needs to be 40-60% to be good. Maybe it is colder where you live and turn up/on the heat. This can cause the air to get dryer. And when working don't forget to blink! It might sound stupid but when you focus on your work you want to keep...

    Beading Tools

Traditionaly beading tools were used by hand. The tool is inserted in to a wooden handle. That looks like a graver-handle. But with a hole the size of the beading tool. Then you would push and rotate on the metal burr you would want to turn in to a bead. Now as Jerry said, you can also use them...

    Power Hone Dust cover

Recently I made a powerhone. And also a cover because I dont want the dust everywhere. Not only is it bad for your health. The metal dust can also damage electronics. Because it is conductive. I have not made a suction attachment. I only work with Hss. Still learning. When I will start to use...

    "new" transfer method

Does it flake when engraving? I have recently brought a laserprinter. And the transfers are perfect using acetone. And baking paper. But to prevent rubbing of I tried some varnishes. 2 flaked off when engraving. The 3rd a spray did not. But I do not like to spray because it gets also on places...
