I want to learn how to “pop” a chip at the end of a cut that has the shape of a “comma”. I be google the heck out of it but really no useful info found. What I learned so far is the graver needs to have a taper for it to be on the “springy” side. I’m using a Lindsay palm control btw. Can anyone...
I bought a Hp 3755 from Best Buy. Will be delivered on the 20th. It uses pigment black ink and a resolution of 1200 /1200 with the black ink. It cost 80 bucks. Will let you guys know how it works when I get it up and running.
thanks for all you help guys.
cheers Richard
Thanks guys, still looking. I’m finding out the opposite, at least here in Eastern TN, the HP printers Black cartridges are ink base #67 instead of the #65 pigment base.
I need more printer resolution than I’m currently getting from my laser printer for transfer. I had a dandy small HP that used HP number 65 ink but it was lost in the move. What are you guys using that uses pigment black it? Don’t need all the bells and whistles, just something inexpensive...
This fixture functions great and just posting these final images so folks get an idea of what is involved in making something like this. Got about thirty bucks in bearings. The arm support is easily slid in or out as preferred.
Cheers Richard
Cobbled a fixture to hold barrels for engraving. The photos are pretty much self explanatory( if they show up). The whole assembly rotates in a post that is inserted into the grey column. It is very smooth to rotate. It rides on a bronze bushing. Aa piece of angle iron in place of a barrel is...
I wrote and posted this before I read page two. Damien, if you read this I wonder if you could help this 83 year old “old man”. Your work is just phenomenal and should inspire all who has the pleasure of seeing it in photos or in life. Sorry to learn of Jerry Fisher’s passing. He was a few years...
Home Depot carries these engraved covers for the carriage trade...Not! I really like the first one, very elegant super duper control on the fine lines.
Thanks for sharing.
Richard
J.J. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Although I bought some engraving tool about 5 years ago I did not have the opportunity to really start using them till now. It is pretty fascinating to see engraving in all its genre after one starts doing it.
Stay well Cheers Richard
Thought maybe one or two of the folks here will enjoy this.

John, thank you! I understand what you are saying. On needs to more preparation, like doing a little “whittling” before the polished punch is used.
Thanks again John...Stay well.
Cheers Richard
Monk, thank you for replying. I’m not understanding you as I guess I did not make it clear in my question. Let me try again please. I’m not interested in the scroll engraving shown in the photo, I just want an idea of how to get those dots as shown in the photo. Let’s say that the metal surface...
3 in 1 oil is an excellent anti rust oil. In a real life test it beat out renaissance wax which came out in second place. Quite a few well known rust preventative oils and greases were tried.
