    Rolex Service

For rescue, Mike's vintage Rolex GMT Master model 1675 purchased in 1978 and was DOA. It required a lot of work as all lubricants were completely dry and parts were slowly grinding away as a result. To make matters worse, the balance staff had a broken pivot so the staff needed to be replaced...

    Parallel Point Length

for me, the ideal heel length is about .25mm. I tell students that the heel shouldn't exceed one of the black line markings on a common ruler. Mine are usually shy of the thickness of one of the lines. Using the ruler as a guide gives you a visual.

GRS foot throttle hissing air even when not being used?

They bleed a bit of air by design. If you're concerned that it's too much, ring them up or check out their YouTube channel for adjusting foot pedals.

why is there no information on laser machines for marking metal?

There are no US manufacturers of lasers that I'm aware of. I would recommend the Haotian laser company in China. Great machines and excellent service. Reach out to Pascal Lui on Facebook and tell him I sent you. Other than that, an easy buy is an Xtool F1 which can be used for marking metal...

Tools and practice plates of Winston Churchill

Yes sir. I made many of my chisel handles from ebony and rosewood, and a few from some exotic South American hardwood. But yes, hammer away!

Tools and practice plates of Winston Churchill

Fantastic collection you're doing there, JJ! I remember that long plate well. It was always close by his vise for test cuts, etc. I made the ebony handled chisel handle with brass ferrule.

    Rococo style

A cup of hot rococo for this wintery morning. My first foray into this style and I learned a lot and picked up a few tricks I can use for other designs. Some parts turned out well and some I’m not too crazy about, but I can say that about every piece I draw. It’s gaudy, cluttered, complicated...

    GRS 915 OR GRS LARGE

I would get the 900 series handpiece for sure. But honesty, I would put that money toward a Gravermax, Graversmith, etc, as opposed to the old Gravermeister. They were good machines back in the day but can't hold a candle to modern machines.

Question: Who was the Master Engraver??

This is a knife engraved by Prudhomme. Very similar to what's on the gun.

    New GRS equipment

I've been testing and using the new machines and handpieces for a few months now, and I can say they are absolutely worth it. More power, smaller footprint, new foot pedal, upgraded valves, and the list goes on. Brilliant upgrades all around.

    iPad pro

Something to consider is the resale value of your iPad a few years from now. If you have 512gb you'll have a much better chance to sell than if you have 128gb. To answer your question, mine has 512 and I have lots of space leftover. My Photos app has thousands of photos that I should probably...

Question: Who was the Master Engraver??

Looks similar to works by Prudhomme, but he certainly would have signed it.

Ken Hunt, Winston Churchill, and Lynton McKenzie 1983

Ken posted these on Facebook and I had to share. What a great photo of 3 of the world's greatest engravers. Ken taught Lynton and Lynton taught me. Winston and I were close friends and while he didn't teach me per se, I learned a lot from him over the years and have been passing it on to others.
