Yes you are right it does look untidy. That was my first attempt at cutting away & stippling background, & if I’m honest I don’t think I went deep enough either. I will endeavour to pay more attention to this. It’s these things that experienced engravers see & point out that help me...

It's easy to see that you have put in a lot of thought and effort into the Cross.
But as always, the Devil is in the details.
The border around the lower, long segment of the cross could have used a little more work and better layout.

In the second picture the "Heads" of the internal elements have some problems.
This will show up in either drawing or cutting..
At some point you have to start some cutting practice.
Try to "see" and correct these problems before...
The first picture, I think they are floral engraved cuff links.
Very nice engraving.
But the background areas need some more work.
The background is un-evenly textured, if you don't mind my pointing it out.
It's easy for a beginner to overlook the importance of this detail.
