Thank you AO84.
When you make a copy of the space you are designing English scroll for, first make a paper copy at actual size.
Use this to just make a quick, rough layout of backbones only, open space "pathways" between clusters and bouquets.
This will help you from overcrowding your design...
AO84, Try drawing scroll backbone lines, main leaf lines and exterior work at twice the size you plan to cut them. Leave out the wide flair cuts and shading.
Then reduce it 50% when you print it for transfer and practice cutting.
Be sure not to get any water into your handpiece.
If you have any doubt.....dry it thoroughly before using it.
PS. I only answered this because it's Sunday and GRS is closed.
Call them tomorrow if you don't have it fixed......they are your best resource.
Look things over and make sure that is where the noise is coming from first.
A little soapy water will show bubbles.
Check the fitting where the hose goes into the handpiece.
If you can take it apart, cut off about and inch and a half of the hose and reassemble it.
Sometimes a crack or tear...
How can one critique, and price doesn't matter.
It was made as a loving gift for family.
WSammut, don't worry about the time it took.
You did a great job and will get faster with experience.
Monica, I know next to nothing about jewelry fabrication, as you know.
But I greatly admire your thought and ,the economy of your design on this piece.
By cutting the window in the back of the piece you created a contrasting background.
And also provided a piece of silver large enough to...
Monica, a stunning piece,
you put a lot of thought and emotion into that design with the hands and heart on the reverse.
And I hope you keep it forever, as a memorial to your engraving and metalsmithing journey.
Diane. If you find yourself damaging the metal with the punch "legs" leaving marks beside your raised wire inlay, make the same type of punch out of a 1/8 inch round bronze brazing rod.
Bronze is also what I use to seat raised gold wire lines and borders into steel.
Hello Monica, the tools you have will do a GREAT job for carving wood and plastics etc.
Don't worry, the only thing you need are the correct tool bits and chisels.
Unfortunately, we have not had the opportunity to make them yet because of the virus thing.
Hopefully we will get to it very soon.
Monica, I agree with your basic premises. Learn the basics first.
Tool grinding , sharpening and the cuts that the gravers make are some first steps.
And these can be learned by starting with a simple hammer and chisel and push gravers.
Too many beginners see an expert demonstrating a power...
Diane ,thank you for your reply.
When inlaying iron wire to remain "standing proud" I have found it useful to seat the wire with a steel punch that I make for the job.
The punch is made from a piece of soft state drill rod, and remains in the soft state.
Using a small round graver, cut a groove...
Hello Diane. The answer is yes.
I regularly use soft iron binding wire to inlay into carbon steel firearms for various decorative purposes and also including small, clean pit filling of damaged guns.
And don't usually have much trouble with blue matching or French Gray finishing.
In inlaying...
