    FEGA 2020 are you going?

Just back from Vegas and it was a great show...as always. Great to see old friends and make new ones. Sat with the Norway folks at the banquet and it was a grand time. For those that didn't make it this year keep in mind that next year's show (15-17 Jan 21) will be the 40th anniversary of...

    Question: Magnification

I have found the diopter based Optivisors to work just fine for me for the past 40 years or so. Not magnification but like reading glasses allows closer focusing. I thought about the lenses you are asking about but all the negative comments kept me from them. A number 10 Optivisor is my go-to...

    Question about gun engraving

As Monk said, be careful clamping the slide when clamping by the sides. I always form a piece of hardwood for a light press fit into the slide so the sides won't be pinched inward when clamped. Dubbing is lightly drawing the bottom of the graver point (heel) across a fine stone while rotating...

    Question about gun engraving

Eric is right. Slides can be rather tough/hard metal. Even with carbide you may need to dub the point of the tool which makes it last a bit longer. Welcome to the vagaries of gun engraving!

Help, please: Trying to locate an engraving teacher on the West Coast

Ditto Marty's suggestion. With engraving systems on display and available for trial and many friendly engravers on hand, you cannot miss! And the engraving on display will be a great inspiration!

    Polarizing filter for Leica 9I

I seem to remember from long ago reading that polarizing filters work to reduce glare off water surfaces but not metal. Old memory...could be defective! Has something to do with the way light is reflected by the two differing surfaces.

    globe shot

In looking at your photo it appears the lighting is coming from the right side. If you lift the left end of the slide a little you should get a better image of the whole slide. It is important to move the item around until you can see the best look/lighting possible and then prop up the item...

    Frank Hendricks

After that class John, Frank came by Castle Valley and overnighted with Wilma and me. Besides wife and daughter, he also had his mother in law. We had a great visit and memorable time.

You are certainly getting with the program Lee. That is going to be a knockout...just like the rest of the rifle. Thanks for the update.

    Engraving Hammer Styles

Here is the "hammer" I got from Joe Rundell. If memory serves (and it sometimes does), he said the electrician tape was to keep the wood from splintering. I stripped it to show the form of the hammer head portion then replaced with new tape.
