Hi Allen,
here on this website it says the working distance is 93mm or 3.7" is that what you where looking for?
And if you scroll down there is more:
Extended Working Distances: 34mm – 251mm (With auxiliary lenses and eyepieces)...
And don't forget about eye protection. With an open laser you can get the laser reflecting in to your eyes. Not good at all!
So you must wear suitable eye protection. Or buy or make an enclosure. An enclosure will also help with the vapours. It makes it easier to extract the fumes from the...
There are a couple different brass alloy some are better than others. If it is hardened it is nicer to engrave. But not for stone setting. The prongs might snap when bending.
Try to find a metal that is sold as dead soft. That way it will probably be soft enough to bend the prongs.
I find...
Titanium is very springy compared to other metals.
14K and 18K yellow is nice to set. White can vary. The nickel whites can be harder than steel to set.
Platinum is my favorite to set. Very easy to form and easy to cut. But not weak. Silver is also easy but it's weak.
So in silver you have to...
For a second time setting stones this look great. Especially in Titanium that is not easy.
If you need stones I can get them for you. Lab dia's are very cheap now. I wouldn't even bother with Moissanite.
And if you have questions about settings just ask me I can give you tips (in Dutch).
An other tip.
Scribe 2 lines where your hole must stay between. So 2 borderlines and 2 lines for the width of your brightcut.
So on each side of your hole there should be 2 perpendicular lines. Now It looks like you scribed only 1 line on each side. You engrave the bright cut between these 2...
0.7mm is about the lower limit of stones. It would be very difficult to find any stone smaller than 0.7mm.
They do exist but hardly anyone sells them because there is no demand.
Dont try to do different styles of setting.
If you want to get better. Do flat setting first. No rings etc only flat sheet. The rest comes later.
If you are getting mushy beads. --> Prongs to big, make em smaller OR use bigger beaders. OR beaders need sharpening. (You can make a cheap tool...
No idea if you need to nickel plate stainless first.
The prongs on the saphire ring look like a good size. They are probably the size I would make them. Smaller would also mean weaker and they will also wear out faster. The 2 on the left look the best. Top right a bit to small. It seams it...
The 90 degree might be to wide and thus remove to much of the prongs. Use 60 degree gravers and tilt them a little away from the stone holes.
In some cases 1 prong is shared between 3 stones. Like in your design 1 center and 6 around. Then the prongs around the center are shared between 3...
I see in some pictures. You have drilled way to big holes. Compared to your burr. There is hardly any metal left for the stones to sit on.
For depth burr to about 60% of the ball burr. For diamonds. For CZ and colored stones you probably have to burr a bit deeper. Because they have a thicker...
You can use Superglue to hold parts. Glue to a piece of wood or metal. Heat after setting and pull of the work. Or place in Acetone.
You could use GRS thermolock. But if you burr a lot it will heat up and get soft again. Not ideal. Also can be a pain to remove.
I rather use polymorph...
You dont have to drill with large drills. I use 0,6mm drill for 1mm stones. And If the I prefer not to drill through the metal in case of jewelry. So it will stay stronger. What you can do to clean up the back is. With a slightly larger ball burr that the drill lightly make a facet on the hole...
Ah ha I see. I thought the adapters where sticking out. Since those exist too.
But these collets go in the existing collet to make them smarter. Then I have nothing bad to say. Because if it was sticking out you would get a very long tool sticking out. Making it very wobbly.
But this is a very...
The Saeshin OZ black uses a different plug. So it wont work.
The Osaka Page doesn't show any power/ torque.
The machine Farmer57 linked looks good on paper. Is hat 7Nm of torque. I think that is the same as the Saeshin OZ Black. For a much more reasonable price. Only thing against it that I...
Just go slow. 3000 Rpm for drilling and burring. 6000 Rpm for tapered burrs when removing metal between stone seats.
I would not buy the air powered tools. They go to fast. It will wear out your tools much faster.
The Youtube video's are correct. Slow and steady wins the race.
Drill pilot...
The main issue I see with dial engraving. Is that dial are very thin. So you cant engrave very deep. Unless you make your own dial. But then it still cant be very thick. Because then your watch wont close because there is not enough room for the movement to fit.
But If you look on instagram...
