Yep. The graver shown in the pic is one I shaped when I first got the template. I've sharpened it today only with the larger (finish) template.
I don't know what to do except to start over after finding some instructions on using it.
Thanks for helping , Mark
I've had this Onglette template for years but never quite got the hang of it so I really never used it. I just thought it would be great to clean up the edges of my silhouette.
Just what is the onglette for ? If my "hold the phone up to the microscope and don't wiggle" pics are ok, does it look...
Ok,
It's been a bit since I've been at my bench and I'm having to pause and think, look up the correct method or just plow through and hope I don't mess up too bad when I don't remember what to do. I was asked to cut a knife for a friend and I'm tickled to get back to engraving. I never was a...
I have a buddy that's somewhat of a nut for Cape Buffalo. I plan on cutting his name and a short phrase on one side with a buffalo on the flip side of a knife.
My question is, should his last name be all caps or capitol first letter then lower case ? In engravers script style.
And I...
Dan you've created the photo great ! The photo , because his right side is in the shadow makes his face look off a little. Maybe consider burnishing a little of the shadow on his right side to even out his face and maybe mirroring his ear from the left to the right. The pose is the problem not...
Seiko 5. They have been made for years . You can buy a new one as little as $ 75 or so or, get a used one if you shop around for $20. Nice stainless body and easy to fab a new engraved dial if you want . They have a great following among watch " Modders" and there is some forums for them...
Is the flare cut style only suitable for bright cutting? I mean how would it look blackened or on a blued gun ? And, is it acceptable to mix one style with another style like American Scroll with some Flare cutting in some odd or remote areas ? Thanks, Mark
You referred to one of them as " the early one", I think that's funny when all are a couple hundred years old ! This is a very interesting post. Thank you, Mark
Looks like pretty nice work for just scratchin. I've got reasonable , amateur control of my tools but about 15% artistic ability. I set for days staring at a project before I can start cutting. You and most others are miles ahead of me when it comes to design.
What's your YouTube channel and...
I thought this time I would try to do a design layout on paper like I should instead of impatiently jumping in with my graver and cutting then thinking about the plan after I started.
This my Llama .380 . It'll be my first pistol engraving. I thought I would have some poison ivy with silver...
Thanks to all for the information. I did go to the local hardware and picked up a couple of new, fine cut files to get started. I'll be shopping for some of better quality as suggested. I watched a couple videos on draw filing. I've used files all my adult life but never sideways ! One thing I...
I'm working on an old Llama .380 to prep it for some simple engraving. It looks like my sanding and stoning isn't gonna be enough . Is there a particular size/type/grit of file I should use ? I think I saw just recently on a post saying I should use a new one so, should I be able to find a...
Are you saying the paint flakes out after it's dry ? Or, comes out as you wipe the surface clean ? My dry Rustoleum is pretty tough. When I apply it, I use my finger diagonally to the cuts or use a piece of paper to wipe. A cloth seems to draw it up and out.
