Thank you. Here is another I finished up yesterday with a similar style. I think this on is much better than the first. Only got a lousy iPhone picture though.
I start by cutting all my borders and outlines with a standard square graver. Then I go back and recut around these edges making several passes leaning my graver in towards the negative space. This leaves islands of negative space. I cut around the entire design so all is completed. After "lining" all the negative areas I use a high speed rotary tool to remove the islands. It works much faster than cutting down with nothing but gravers. Its also much easier to get deeper background removal with the rotary tool.
I have plans to try doing my background by acid etching it, but haven't gotten a chance to test the process before doingg it for real.
