A Saturday well spent

Well I finally got a chance to spend a day with Joe Mason. I had a blast. He answered all my questions and then some. It was my first time using a microscope and I tell you , I am getting one just as soon as I can. He showed me some drawing tips , and the proper depth I should be cutting, wich is a lot shallower than I been cutting , and some geometry tips . I spent some time Sunday putting what I learned to use and wow. I'm seeing big improvements. I hope to have something very soon to show , but right now I am getting use to not cutting so deep. A word to any beginner, seek out a professional engraver and spend some time with them. Thank you Joe foe taking the time to help me out.

I'm blessed that Sam is less than an hour drive from me. I couldn't believe I did my own work at the class.

Hmm I didn't realize he was in brandon. I wouldn't mind visiting him. What was his fee for a Saturday ?

Beladran, To help keep the engraving profession alive, Joe is helping two local engraver with unlimited help at no charge. I don't think he will be taking on any others for a while. He has a large backlog of work and some personal projects going on

JJ, you don't have to tell me. Lol. I have been corresponding with Joe for months now. His and my schedule finally worked out where I could go see him. Due to his work load he really don't have much downtime, and for him to take some time to help me out is very generous On his part. He is a heck of a nice guy and I'm glad to call him my friend.

Jared, good for you, still reading the book you sent always something to learn, read, read it again and so on and so on....I hope you can share with us new guys what you have learened.

I have to admit I envy you having someone so close,,,I have to drive about 4 hours to visit Gerry in Austin...its about time for another visit.

Carlos, I knew by your enthusiasm that you were the right person to send the book to. Im really happy you enjoy it. And yes Joe is only an hour away, and I'm lucky for that.
