I would like to add a polarizing filter to my microscope. I know that the Meiji objective lens thread diameter is larger than 43mm but I don't know exactly what it is. Has anyone added a filter and/or know the diameter?

Thanks
Gary

polarizing filter for meiji

if all you're tryin to do is eliminate glare, go online to the orion astronomy catalog. check out lunar neutral density filters. these filters cut glare, and are inserted into the eyepieces, and come in different strengths. probably a lot cheaper than polarizing that scope.

Expect to lose light as a result of adding a polarizing filter.

I doubt that a neutral density filter will have a positive effect as they are used to reduce light. As far as I know, they have no effect on glare.

sam, you're probably correct. i've used these in telescopes for lunar observation ( a must ) i thought they might be ok for the meiji. monk

Gary's idea of a polarizing filter is interesting. My photography experience with polarizers is that they only remove glare and reflections if the light is at a 90° angle from the subject. If you're using a ring light I'm not sure a polarizer will do much. Polarizers are quite dark, so even if they do work, you'll experience quite a reduction in viewing brightness. I'll test mine later today and report back. / ~Sam
