Hi, my name is Jerry Gant and I'm new to engraving. So new that I have no experience in engraving nor any tools with which to do so. All have is the desire though I am in the process of gathering the needed tools..did I mention that my wife already hates yall?
I have signed up for a class to learn how to make custom bits & spurs with H. M. (Herman) Wells in Odessa Texas and that is where my desire to learn engraving comes in. Some of you may know or know of him, as I see he's a member here.
I've been reading all the posts in here and whatever else I can find online. I am amazed by the quality of work I've seen displayed in here. I hope I haven't waited too long in life to get started.
Just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I'll be lurking in the shadows. I probably won't have much to say as I'll be all ears and eyes for awhile.

Welcome Jerry!! I don't know how old you are, but someone once said to me when I remarked about how old I was -"Well, how old will you be if you don't learn engraving?" You're never too old, OK!! You're gonna love it. This is a great place to be!

I would like to see the list of 6/7 normals. Anything brought to a vote could be real interesting.

Well if abnormal is a prerequisite...then I'm in the right place. I'll fit right in!
My wife really doesn't hate yall...she just thinks I should be able to engrave with a rock and a 10 penny nail! I told her that that's what my first job will probably look like.
She even had the audacity to suggest I sell one of my guitars. Now that's just not fair!
Thanks for the welcome....back to the shadows.

Abigail,
The only one I have for sale at this time is a Republic square neck, tri-cone resonator..I bought it about 3 months ago. THe first day, I played around on it but since then.... it's only sat in the case. It needs a new home. I'm asking $400. It's as heavy as the bumper on a 56 Buick and twice as much chrome.
I've got a '71 Gibson 12 string, 2 custom ones, made for me by a guy here near Dallas(www.perrettaguitars.com). A couple of beaters..a Takamine and an old Yamaha.
Sorry, no pre-war Martins( but that would certinally solve my problems).
Are you a player?

Having to sell one toy to buy another...............now that's really harsh!!!!!

If we all did that, think of all that junk our kids and grandkids would miss out on having to get rid of!!!! :)

Cheers

Jerry,
I play guitar a little bit. I'm not very good at it, but I know few chords! I can't decide if I play guitar to cover up my singing, or if I sing to cover up my playing! :p Whatever the case, I really enjoy it.
I have my first guitar I ever owned, an Alvarez. It actually sounds really nice! Then, I sold my Takamine to buy my Taylor, and then I starved for a few months to buy my Martin.:D
Sam and I have a living room that looks like a music store! LOL We like buying old instruments at flea markets etc just to use as wall hangings.
Aren't you glad you joined the forum? I bet you are feeling more ane more normal every time you visit!!!;)
Cheers!
Abigail
