I'm a newbie so I hope I don't ask what seemingly may be dumb questions - but from what source do you get your silver for your bracelets? This may be something I would like to try engraving.
Bracelet is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Monk, You must live in Jurassic park. That is a nice fish in anybody's book. While I'm eatin' dinner, you can be sitting there waiting for something big enough to get that puppy down. What do you fish for..........great white sharks?...Ha Ha Ha
Hey Brian, You got the wine, you got the fish, you got a few potatoes and beans...........It don't get mutch better than that.................Ron S
MaryW----I got the silver from Rio Grande.
Since I don't have the shears, I had them cut it for me.
The size I used is 1"X6" 20 gauge sterling silver
I paid $17.00 for each one I ordered.(Price varies due to spot market prices)
I'm not sure if it is the best bargain, but it was pretty convenient for me.
Brian
P.S. to Ron S.----Yep. Got the wine, fish, spuds and beans. You can even use one of my guitars.
Allan,I put blue painters masking tape on them.
The GRS Metal forming tool is made with a real soft spongy metal that allows for forming the bracelet but has a certain "give" to it. Kinda weird stuff, but it works great!
Marring and scratching isn't a problem at all.
Nice work Brian. Wriggling a shape like that heart is about the hardest work there is I think...trying to not only keep the wriggle consistent but the shape symmetrical as well. Excellent work.
what is the GRS metal forming tool?
Also I have seen mention on this forum about a course, video and books and think, from GRS on intro to engraving. I don't think it was the Glasser materials, but I can't remember.
The GRS Metal forming tool is a press that shapes flat metal into bracelet form.

Brian, Awesome bracelet! Your western engraving is sweet. I hope it raises a lot of money for lady. Thanks for helping. And thanks for post those great bracelets. Dwayne
Hi I am complete noob to this I have various tools electric etching set which skates across the silver, i also have a carbide scribe, i was given but unsure how to work with them.I make mixed media handmade jewellery.
can anyone help please as I don't know which tools to use.
thanks
kris
kris, no one has answered your question so I will give it a try. I assume that you are wanting to engrave, but the tools you have and describe are not what we on this forum are using. The pneumatic hammers and the "old world tools" (hammer and chisel and burin") are the tools of these artists. I would recommend maybe finding an engraver in your area and going to meet him and watch him. We call the tools we use "gravers". You can get catalogues from GRS or jewelry supply catalogues. There are many pictures on this forum of our tools and gadgets we use to do our work. Your vibrating 'electric" engraver is for freehand stuff and difficult to control for accurate work similar to what you see on this forum. The scribe is for lightly solidifying the design prior to actual engraving. You will need other tools to perform any of the stuff you see on this forum. Hope this helps...........Ron S
Nice bracelet. I also engrave silver bracelets in the western style. I have been useing Argentium silver and forming on the 20 ton press. I have been wholesaleing them at 225 and they then sell for around 450. What do you figure yours at? Takes me about 3 to 4 hours to complete one, and it all depends on whether I engrave the inside also. Jack
Jack, I've never used the Argentium. Is is better than Sterling or .998Ag?
I use the GRS Metal Forming tool for the shaping.
As of now, I've never actually sold any of my bracelets.
I've used everyone for raffle/auction donations, except for the three I made for my wife and my two daughters.
It usually takes me 3-4 hours also, and if I get a chance to sell one, they would be in the $400.00-$450.00 price range.
I like argentium sterling very much. I have very little problems with it. You can harden it and aneal it very easy. You can get all the information on this metal with the web site http://www.cynthiaeid.com/argentium. I have been useing it for casting and forming for about 2 years now. The nice thing is it takes very little care to take care of it. Check out http://jlgohn.com and also www.silversmithing.com/argentium.htm jack
