arm support

I don't know if it's old age or I just wore out early. Everyone said I would never see 21 and here I am 75.
I thought I needed a little bit of an arm support.
So I put one together using the camera monopad, a universal camera mount and a piece of 4 inch plastic pipe.
Flexibility of the camera mount allows me to raise my wrist to start the graver cut I would have taken a selfie using it but my arms are not long enough.

so this gadget is just freestanding on the floor and you put your right(?) forearm in the trough, adjust it a bit with other hand, then engrave with your arm resting on/in it? whatever works, i guess. i'd suggest a layer of padding in the pipe.

Hey Mitch, one day you may see what I've cobbled together?

Not much more complicated than a padded sling hanging from a spring anchored in the ceiling.

Without it, I would have been done engraving 15 years ago - when the nerve that enables me to raise and hold my arm out to the side was removed as part of a surgery.

In my case, that was a bit early. But you CAN (usually, anyway) expect that age will bring you some surprises as well.

Not one person on this forum is getting out of here alive...

i was wondering if anybody had tried a suspension set-up, Brian. i like the idea of a spring to provide some support, but still allow fairly free movement. of my many maladies & complaints, so far just holding my arms up to engrave has not been a problem, but i'll keep this in mind...

It's a 6" spring and I experimented with at least a half dozen of them to find the one I use.

Gives just enough support and allows for enough up and down movement.

The main problem is that it forces you to take a break every 20 minutes or half hour to relieve the inherent pressure.

Where the upper arm rides on it, it tends to cut down circulation and lymph functions.

So far, over many years it has had no effect on the nerves.

I have experimented with various forms/styles of slings to relieve the pressure - with channels and such, but not much success. So far..
