Here are the chucks I use. Note the square punch stock on the side of the coin chuck in the second photo. It allows me to keep alignment with a pattern, if I am engraving or scribing dies or coins.
Thanks for your time explaining your working procedures, Steve! This is a very clever solution with two chucks. It is simple and I am sure it works great. In school we always do all engraving processes on dies on the CNC-engraving machine, so there is no need to go back and forth.
I was thinking of saw cut aluminum patterns because of their vertical sides. This way one could use a stylus with a cylindrical tip. And the diameter of the stylus could compensate for differences in cutter-tip-width. The disadvantage is that it takes much more time to make them.
