While it's not really engraving, I thought most people would like to know Bill Janney will be featured on the DIY network Saturday August 11th at 10:00PM Eastern. Bill does some super carving!
Here's the link for the show.

i bought one of his books and did a gunstock based on the art shown in the book. if you're interested in tryin a hand at doing a stock, this book has some good info to get a newbie going in the right direction.

You know i have carved alot of stuff in my time and recently decided to cut down a g3 chinese stock on one of my air rifles because it weighed in far too much for comfort. This gunstock carving is a serious pain in the butt compared to engraving or cutting metal. All of these wood carvers really earn their money as it's about as unforgiving material as one could hope to mess with. Each wood has it's own problems, health concerns and what a mess. You can't believe the dust and crap that comes out of a gunstock. Most have been treated with epoxy materials that will burn your lungs out ifyou breath even a short whiff of the crap. It's not an art form for the faint of heart and I wonder how they can comfort themselves over the return they get for the effort involved. One was more than enough for me and thankfully it will be used in the high desert where no one will ever see it.

i watched this. looked like he was using a monarch handpiece with quickchange holders. also a high speed rotary. an interesting over the shoulder look. interesting how he deals with and utilizes pattern transfers. you will all love the final shot where he holds the rifle by the scope, and hands it to his client ! i guess that might be forgiven ?
