One other question to those of you who make the beautiful silver bracelets, pendants, rings, etc. What books would you recommend to me for this media? I would most likely need some basic information along with intermediate etc. So much for me to learn - and I want to do it right.

Been thinking about the DVD by Diane on bright cuts?? Good investment?

Thank all of you so much for your response to my question about where to buy the silver and other things.
Everyone has been so helpful.

Oppi Untracht is probably my favourite - a bit dry for some tastes, perhaps; generally less project oriented than technique oriented.
Anything by Tim McCreight; Jinks McGrath has a good book on rings (particularly good from a setting point of view)... Lots to choose from.

Mary,
Diane Scalese's dvd is excellent. So are Jeremiah Watt's videos "Cowboy Engraving" and "Cowboy Silversmithing". Good luck.

Maybe something for you.
Think so!

Voor de beginner net als gevorderde en goed engelssprekenden, een ideaal boek. Beetje kort beschreven hier en daar, maar voor de mensen die hun gereedschap kennen, Thumbs up! 8

Mary,

I became a silver jewelry maker for 20 years using the information I found in a book called Jewery Making for Schools Tradesmen Craftsmen, by Murray Bovin. There is now a revised edition done by Peter M. Bovin. The ISBN is 910280-01-0. I still use a propane torch on silver like the plummers use.

Regards,

Les

I'm like bronc. I have Jerimia Watts videos, and that is all I've used. I'm sure more instruction would do me good, but there is a ton of great info in those 2 videos.

Another book I recommend is "The Design and Creation of Jewelry," by Robert von Neumann. Not much about engraving, but it explains a lot about making jewelry.

Mary,
Take a look on www.smartflix.com. Not sure if they have Jeremiah Watt's video but they have The Complete Silversmith by Tim McCreight which I thought was very helpful. They have quite a slection of jewelrymaking dvd's. They also have quite a selection on engraving including Diane Scalese's dvd.
