Vic,Good first attempt at on the elk,a good book on animal anatomy Drawing Animals by Jack Hamm and study the work of other engravers & artists that are good at anatomy, like SamW J.J.
Thank you rstripnieks and JJ. I will pay more attention to the fur length on the next try. I study other engravers work as often as I can. Thanks for the book recommendation I will be ordering it!
Very nice, one small detail other than hair length is the taper on two of the tines. His right side #1 and #4 get wider toward the tip. Anything can happen in antler growth, but it grabbed my eye as unusual. Still a great job!
Jon- Thank you!
Fred- Man, I think that would look pretty cool! I don't have time to put that on this knife. I might try that on a knife for my grandfather.
Personally I like the shaggy look, I guess it's not anatomically correct but it gives it some edge and adds a little action. The revised one is great too, very nice work. How about a closer detail photo??
