This is 3rd 4th and 5th attempts at bulino. The bird on the right was my 3rd try. then after some advice from Sandy the one on the left was my next try. The deer was my 5th try and after some more advice from Sandy I am going to try again on the same plate when time permits. Feel free to critique.

Leland,
Some very good early attempts! Well done and thank you for sharing.
Sandy gave you some good advise and the deer shows great improvement.
The main problem with the deer is the shiny outline cuts outlining the antlers.
Just a little lighter cutting and more study is needed in this area.
You are well on your way.

John, thank you for your comments, I don't know where the shine is coming from on the deer antlers the plate does not look that way may be the camera angle. The lighter cutting was Sandy's suggestion too. I will try again.
Paps thank you at this point I'm just glad you could tell it wasn't a parrot. I tried another photo of the deer.
Thanks,Leland

I was stuck in a hotel room last night so I tried to soften the fur and harden the horn. I like it better but have a long way to go.

I'm a newby also so my Opinion is not as important but I think that they're really really good for the amount of time that you've been engraving. I haven't even tried Balino yet, I'm concentrating on my lettering and scroll work . Please keep posting your progress. Im going to do an Edwardian Script Alphabet practice plate today and post that when Im done , See how it goes. Good Luck.

paps, ed every opinion is important. I am just tying bulino but have been engraving for years. I just never had time to try it or any call for it. My goal is get good enough to do hunting dogs that are recognizable.
Thanks,Leland
