we shall see if they're serious- it would certainly help. in other CITES news, a client/friend who makes wooden flutes is currently navigating the bureaucratic minefield of a looming ban on all trade in all species of rosewood (Dalbergia sp.). Seems he uses the 'relatively' common African Blackwood, which is a major export of Tanzania, in his flutes. He has plenty of stock on hand to continue making them for years, but now dreads the hassle of documentation, international sales (a big part of his business), even his professional clients traveling with their instruments.

I think releasing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of ivory on the open market instead of destroying it would cause a glut and make the ivory worthless to poachers.
