I have not made one out of a ball but have heard they drill a hole almost through the ball then cut it in half drill the bottom half bigger. Put your port through the hole wild an end on it that doesn't come back through the hole but will fit in to the bottom hole then weld them back together and sand.

Another way I have done was to drill a hole for the port almost through the ball. Cut a grove near the ends of the port. Drill a small hole perpendicular To the large hole and to one side where the grove should be. When you put the port in the ball a pin can be slid through the second hole into the grove and out the other side locking the port inside. You only have to do two little spot welds to hide the pin and sand. This usually doesn't last as long as the other way because you only have to ware out part of a pin to turn loose the port, but some commercial makers are doing it that way and it dose last a long time.
