did some inlay today

I have not really done much inlay since I took Sam's class. Im a little rusty but I had fun and learned a lot doing this.

this is a rejected 1911 slide that I had acquired last year.
"A" for my last name. the feet of the A is a little messed up. I can cut it out and relay that wire I think.


Did a spade on the other side

Looks like you got the hang of it. Yes, dig out the "messed up" areas and re-inlay...it is good practice and likely not the last time it will occur! After you remove the bad area, take a small punch and punch back the ends of the good gold so when you inlay fresh into the area you will have sufficient gold, where they meet, to not get a low spot.

It will look a lot better if you will cut an outline in the steel on the sides of the inlay. It will really make it pop.
