Depends what you will do. I tried some soldering and found that it has a big lag making it hard to use. For static imaging it can be used. Of course there is a big difference in image quality, but hey, it is a cheap device, what you may expect from it.

Tried one about 6 years ago, was hugely disappointed by the magnification / working distance dependance, the amout of light it captured and the noise in the image. It was no cheapo, about 200-300 Euros, from a colleague who had tried it out for parts inspection.

I’m toying with a similiar idea for the moment, to get a view at the front of the graver under 30-45 degrees. I will try a HD camera with a telemacro lens as soon as I could borrow one…

optics are reasonable on most. any i've tried had a really wobbly mount and were a pita to focus.
