DITTO MAAKO!!!

OK, Lee, get "ONE" of your family members to record your session. I say one so that the recording quality stays the same throughout the session.
$40 bucks for a DVD is a heck of a lot better than $1, 000+ for the trip and class for me.
Now, if you'd put together a lion hunt with mules, I would have no choice but to attend.
The "EXTREME MULES" videos on YT shot in Utah are AWESOME!
On second thought, let's just reenact our ( okay, "my") school days when I used to skip school and my buddies and I would go hunting.
I know ,Scoobey ( 1, 800 lbs.! ), my mule and Scrappy, my dog are voting "ROAD TRIP!!!".

31 years ago I wandered into a head drawing class for art majors who had taken the prerequisite classes. I had a degree in agriculture and no prior art classes. A bit cheeky perhaps, but I begged my way into the class and a few others the same way. What I learned in that class and another 5 credit hour basic drawing class has proved invaluable in my pursuit of engraving.

The drawing of the young lady was done the first day of class in two hours from a live model. The other two are of my firstborn and my father-in-law at the end of the semester. These again were two hours or less. The profile of the girl is less refined and a much easier pose to draw. The other two are more difficult poses- especially the baby with the open mouth and downward tilt of the head. There was no transferring or measuring device allowed other than the creative use of the pencil. Over the course of the semester I learned how to see and what to see. This is the key to accurate drawing and it does not matter whether it is an animal, person, or ornament. This is what I hope for the students in the drawing class.

What I plan on covering is:
- accurate drawing- how to see and understand relationships and shapes
-light and shade
-contour drawings focusing on an understanding of form and shape
-perspective as it relates to what angle a leaf or ornament is being viewed and animals-especially in scenes

time will be spent towards the end of the week showing and understanding how these principles are applied to leaves, scroll, and ornamental elements.

Don't panic, I have no intention of bringing in a live model and having you draw unless collectively and united, the class pleads for such a challenge. We will be doing some simple elements and still life to teach the art of seeing.

I want to do a number of demos on a large sheet of paper where I will talk through my thought process and what I am seeing and why as I draw.

Gotta go coach my son's basketball game. I'll finish when I get back

Well the kids won their game no thanks to the coach. Now where was I.....my main point is that I could not have drawn the latter two poses with much success at the beginning of the class. I saw in my drawings a significant improvement. I am convinced anyone who will listen and diligently practice with some patience the principles "artists" use can also make significant progress. Everyone's starting point is different and therefore where they are at the end of the class will vary but all will be farther down the path. The best part is that from that point on the time spent on practice will be quality practice in place of aimlessly putting in time.

I am not screening or asking for pictures of one's work. The focus of this class is to help the self proclaimed non-artist. I have no plans of turning on an engraving machine however, if the class unanimously wants to see and experience something not in the proposed cirriculum anything is possible. Those who have taken a class from me can vouch for my flexibility.

I am looking at June 23-27. I am thinking $650 for the class. Their will be plenty of good cheer, laughter, blunders, great weather, bald heads, concrete floors, hard chairs, and barbecues.

Hi Ron,
Recently featured as the possibilities to come to your class, but the cost is more than € 1000, = for transport and then your lessons $ 650, = and a hotel with breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately, this is too much for me, it's too far away and too expensive. Also I would be very happy with a DVD recording of your classes, to still have the possibility to learn from you. Greetings Caty.

I like the fact you are teaching to see, I've always considered the ability to see ( with an artistic eye [third eye]) far more important than drawing ability. I've taken more art/ drawing classes than I can count and you're the first teacher I've heard speak of teaching to see. I'd be extremely interested in your approach on this. Sounds like the most direct route to understanding drawing.

Hora, it was an delight to visit with you and meet your family. Tot zeins en het zaal hopelijk het volgende jaar zijn, ja. Het beste.

Dave, I think you are right on. Until we understand how to see and evaluate for drawing purposes our chances of success are greatly reduced.

I am quite technologically challenged however with the numerous suggestions regarding a video, I must learn more and see whether it is doable. Suggestions are welcome from the smart people out there.

Lee I think Sam's videos from GRS are a great format, very simple, basically a narrative with the visual examples. I plan to use this same basic format on an instructional video I'm working on. Just don't tell Sam.
