I am not up to exhibition stage with my metal engraving but I thought that I would share this. Carved emu for our nephew and his bride. I have been under a bit of time pressure and consequently this is not my finest work. Bit disappointed with the lettering. The names get lost in the curls and swirls. I will put more time into lettering next time, maybe double cut the capitals.

Thanks for the compliment but I’m by no means the first. The craft has been around for about 150 years. While largely associated with Aboriginal Art, both black fellas and white fellas are carving. There are a few US carvers as well.

I really like this. The lettering has an antique style of layout which looks great. The name does not get lost in the scrolls. The scrolls give the inscription a kind of unity where it ties everything together. And the sculpted emu is also above since instead of being a profile where the everything looks kind of inanimate; you have head and throat of the emu laid out with very few cuts so it looks like it's coiled and ready to strike.

You may not be so impressed with this but I sure am.
