Engrave-ability of Beretta 692 ?

I am looking for a relatively clean palate for engraving on $2000 to $3500 12 gauge over/unders.. The Browning 725 is "clean" but coated with nitrite.
The Beretta 692 looks good, but I've no idea of how it might cut.

Gordon,Simple just make a cut with your graver in a place where it can't be seen. J.J.

The client hasn't purchase the firearms yet- he hopes to purchase new guns that are engraveable for his project.

you can also contact the manufacturer. they might be able to give a bit of info. just a thought.

I'm not quite sure where to start that search for how to contact the factory- guess I'll start
with a sales rep or distributors.
Do you think they will speak English if I find the number to call Italy?

Actually I'd start with the factory Beretta USA, I think they moved to Virginia I'm not sure now they used to be in Accokeek Maryland they do have a website with the phone numbers. The Reps probably won't know the hardness or the distributors. You need to talk to someone in the service department because they'd be the only ones that would have a clue to the Rockwell hardness.

You might try if the factory is unable or unwilling to tell you what you need to know these folks will know. Tell them what you are wanting to know and for what purpose. I have found them to be better than dealing with the factory.

I gave Cole's a call - they reported the Beretta 692 is not suitable for engraving .

A woman there (with the last name of Cole) talked to the service manager and returned my call with a message that was relayed from that department - "The guns are treated with a vacuum process (no doubt a Physical Vapor Deposit such as nitrite) and after all the work required must be re hardened" She said that he just kept saying "no".

I have a tough time hearing on the phone, so I did not get exact details, but I am confident that I do not want to attempt engraving the Beretta 692.

These guns are pretty much not engravable as they stand.. The best modern O/u in that price range is the Browning cx series guns I have done a few of these and they cut great and refinish fine . check them out .

I think your best bet for a engraveable o/u is to buy a older Belgium Supposed (B-25) as a starting point. The entry level (Grade I) on these are around the price you are willing to pay. Just a thought.

Thank you for contacting Beretta Customer Support.

The receiver of the 692 is made out of steel so it would be pretty hard. Any other information is proprietary to Beretta and not public information.
