Odd little tool I found. Apparently for measuring correct depth for tone on plates. Anyone ever see one of these?? I have this odd tool fetish even if they are obsolete and of no use.
I spent 42 years in the printing trade and never saw a gauge like that, your gauge was used mainly by plate makers for letter press printing.Your gauge is obsolete most printing to day is done offset. It could be used for checking depth for inlays. J.J.
Thanks for posting it. I never knew it existed before, but it is cool. I'm with Mitch. It wouldn't change what I'm doing, but it would be kind of cool to know what certain projects characteristics are.
I believe this to be a great gauge. I have been looking for a depth gauge. The way I want to use this is to keep the same depth of engraving when I am repeating a job. I have had a customer who has remarked that the engraving seems to be at different depths on repeat jobs. Now I have to find someone who sells this gauge. Thanks for the info.
