Question: Engraving books and magazines.

FWIW, Marco Nobilli has been deceased for several years so there hasn't been a new addition for ten years or more, though the books can still be found at times with an Internet search.

As Will wrote above, you can finds lots of examples of engraved guns, knives and hobos on the Internet. The problem is that quite often there is no accompanying information with the image and there is no organization of of the images. Also many are not high resolution images that offer any real help in determining technique. Of course since I write engraving books I am admittedly biased on the subject. Nevertheless, I have never heard anyone say they were sorry they bought an engraving book because there are images on the Internet. In my own case, I try to have as many previously unpublished pictures within as I can.

As to DIY books, there is not much on the net aside from the two engraving forums, which are great but you have to search around a bit.

You are absolutely right Mr Bleile. I wasn't meaning any slight, just refering to the cost of a large (and growing) library. Sometimes the internet is a cheaper way to start, at least for viewing different styles and genre's...esp. when knowledgable people such as yourself contribute some of your vadt knowledge. Thank you for what you share.

I am a complete newbie. What I'm trying to do is understand what an engraving drawing would look like. Okay, in theory the number of drawings is infinite, just a matter of one's creative invention. However, I've been looking at Roger Bleile's "Illustrated Glossary of Hand-Engraving Terminology" that's found on the internet. Clearly you can break down a drawing of an engraving into elements. Just wondering if there is a book you can buy that mentions these elements, with photographs. Thank.

I think I might have identified what I'm after: I see that Ron Smith wrote 2 books, "Drawing & Understanding Scroll Designs" and "Advanced Drawing of Scrolls". We also have "Floried Victorian Ornament", "Floral Illustrations", "Decorative Flower and Leaf Designs", "Great Book of Celtic Patterns", "1001 Floral motifs and Ornamentals for Artists and Craftspeople", "The Essential Guide to Drawing Scrolls", "AlfanoArt Monogram System". I'm probably not going to become a hand engraver, but I do want to understand the work that engravers produce.
