Had a little go at a pattern.. not fast, but fun 
I made a Procreate brush and was kind of challenged if it was possible or just a computer generated idea.. which was a good constructive feedback and I had to challenged my self..
This is what I tried.. not saying it´s the more fast or the best way, but I´ll try to experiment some more with it
You see on the right side I measured the squares more or less.. then I used a 116 to make a “deep” cross from the corners of each square. Obviously from thin to thick and deep, almost creating a rose.. then a flat, first sideways to shape it a bit and then on an angle from each corner.. when getting a bit more secure I think that can be speeded up and done easier.. I think a little smaller square would be easier too.
