Hi RoddyJB,

I have two engraving blocks in my studio, one is excellent, the other is not. You would be welcome to come by and try them out, you could learn what to look for in a used vise. I am in east van, close to the PNE. Email me if you like- info@sufoster.com

Used engraving equipment comes up quite often around here, I don't think there is any need to jump on a deal that might not be right.

I got it, and there were no pins/fixtures of any kind except for what I think is one side or one half of a ring holder? It is a half cone shape.
The vise seems to operate smoothly though I think one washer/spacer in the middle is warped or bent so may try to replace or straighten it. When adjusting the jaws together or apart it kind of catches for about 1/4 turn then releases a bit then catches again.
Everything else moves smoothly & the two halves lock.

judging from the photo the pin holes look like 3/8 inch. what ever size they are, pins could be made from round steel stock from Fasten-all or other industrial supply. Good luck with your new old vise.
