Wish my first had been half as nice in 1988. Good on you, for waiting 'till you were quite capable.

I know firsthand that that is not easy. I traded that first customer another gun 10 years later just to get it out of circulation!

Scrapped most of it, used some parts that weren't engraved for repairs. Learned an expensive lesson... (actually another expensive lesson)

Nice work! A very tasteful and great looking job! Can I ask what method you used to lighten the scroll work to create the nice contrast with the dark background?

Hi David ,Thanks for your kind words .I use gun blue for dark background and then use old 600#sandpaper to lighten the scroll.

perhaps your first. looks as though you have done a lot of these guns. very clean work. i think it was in the meeks book that james used a pencil eraser to lighten areas of his work. anyhow this is a quite handsome piece.

This is a great advice Brian. I bought a 1911 a couple of years ago to engrave but I'm glad I did not engrave it then!!! I was looking at my scroll drawing from 2 years ago for the gun the other day and I did not like it. It still has not been engraved to this day because I've been busy engraving bike parts which I get lots of practice with. However, I might pull the trigger this year if I can find the time.
