Hi all,

I've been lurking on the list for awhile, enjoying the discussions and
everyone's images. I'm not an engraver, so I can't contribute much
to the discussion, but my wife and I recently commissioned an
engraving. I thought a lot of you would enjoy seeing the result.

The item is a Spyderco Kopa in Gold-lipped Mother of Perl, engraved
by Fred Carter. It will be my wife's gift to me on our 20'th anniversary
in a few months. We are working with a local jeweler on my gift to her.

Best regards to all,
Ron

Ron,
What a fun idea. The knife and its engraving are wonderful.
Now that you've had a taste of this fine wine of engraving how about giving it a spin?
The world of learning has opened for you.:)

Well, the thought of taking a class in order to get a quick introduction
to the tools has crossed my mind. But I need to do a lot more drawing
first. I'm starting by using a drawing program with layer capability and
drawing designs over digital photos of knives. After I do that for awhile,
and get Ron Smith's books on scrolls, I may be ready to buy some tools
and get some lessons. In the meantime I've had a lot of fun looking at
the David Darom books and people's websites, and learning about this
whole area that I had not known about before.

Best regards,
Ron

Thanks for posting it looks very nice. I'd like to see what she's getting.
Mike

Back in Feb. I posted a photo of an engraved knife my wife is giving me for our anniversary. Here's what I'm giving her. It's not engraved, but it does have a
bunch of stones set into it.

The gift is the ring wrap, she already had the solitare and band. The wrap has 3 sapphires and about a dozen small diamonds of various sizes.

Ron, thanks for your patronage of the art. Without you, our clients, we would have no future. Where most of our culture has forgotten the value of its customers, engravers cherish theirs, as we are of like minds and spirits. We like to produce quality, You love to own it. We value your participation. It keeps this great art alive, and I think I speak for everyone here. You have some very nice pieces there...... If I can help you in your pursuit of engraving, feel free, but I have to warn you. When you get good enough to cut some decent lines, you will be hooked and you will be fanatic like the rest of us. It is a facinating interest. Thanks for your involvment......Ron S

Ron - It was a pleasure to decorate this little Spyderco for you on your 20th year together. Here are a couple of other Spyderco knives I did for an old and dear friend in Holland. I think the steel in these knives is 420J but not be heat treated as it cuts easily. Both KOPA knives were done using an Air Graver and 120 Lindsay type grind and the Cricket was done with a 90 and my very old and faithful Gravermeister. Fred
