I am going to try some gold inlay. I have been practicing
on yds of doing copper. Could someone give me a
idea on maybe 2 common sizes of gold wire used in
inlay, so I can order some. Thanks:tiphat:

If you have or get a draw plate you can buy 1mm wire and draw to whatever size you want, trying several. I have found for the inlay I do that .020 is about as large as I need and most inlays are done with .016 wire. I melt scrap gold into a blob, pound it flat to a little less than 1mm, snip squarish lengths off and run through the draw plate to .016 for reuse. Oh, and for flush gold line borders I use about .012

FegaRex teaches using a 37 graver and 24 guage wire. This works good for me. I also by 18 guage wire and draw it using a draw plate.
