GRS belt buckle resolder question

I just engraved a belt buckle from GRS for a friend. I was pretty happy with it till I realized it's upside down. So now I have to swap around the buckle plate inside. I haven't done much of this type of soldering but I think I can do it with a butane torch, some acid and silver solder. Heat it slowly till it releases, turn it around and re solder. Does this sound right or am I missing anything important here?

Sounds possible. Shawn Didyoung would be the guy to ask as he solders after he engraves.

Leonard, soldering after you engrave will not send you to hell for eternity...

There are situations where that is the only solution.

There ARE ways to do it correctly and without a mess to cleanup or re-engrave.

I'd have to see with my own eyes what you are dealing with.

My unsolicited advice: remove the old hardware. Don't try to save it. cut, grind, file, scrape, Sand-what ever. get all and any solder off. New hardware packaged complete and ready to mount is a couple of bucks- go from a clean slate, you'll be way ahead time and energy wise. not to mention stress Fred

Since this is a gift for a friend in Japan maybe I can just tell him that's how we wear them here.

My two cents......
Without having it in hand I can't tell for sure but it looks to be soft soldered. I would try your first plan... if it works fine... if not chock it up to experience.

With soft solder Shawn is the go to guy on that one. He should be able to help you.

only problem that comes to mind-- is the heat going to anger the snake ? marrinan has it right- i've only had to repair one of the buckles i have made over the years. i heated, remove fittings, ground all the gunk down to bare metal- soldered on a whole new batch of fittings- life was good.

From what I see in the image - it does not look like an insurmountable problem...

Dave will bring it over and perhaps he will put up images after it's swapped around.

Easy fix. It should be able to reheat and remove the back, just heat it enough to make the solder give way using a pick to pry it off,then reset it the way it belongs. If it were silver solder I wouldn't bother.keep it clean and it should go easy.
