Hand Engraved Kimber 1911

So here is my first gun engraving job since obtaining my FFL. Customer is happy. Would love to hear some feedback on what I can do to improve. Very open to all suggestions, comments and critique. I know this just the first step in a long journey. Also plan to join FEGA. Thank you. ~David

One of criticism I have is your running leaf on the frame. It should grow toward the front of the gun.

Looks good to me, I really like how you outlined "Kimber" , it really stands out to me with great depth, like it's a plaque on top of the scroll.

So interesting Bert! I wrestled with using it both ways. Even had the transfer made up with it going the way you suggested but switched back at the last minute because it seemed to me like the design made "arrows" and I thought it would look better with those arrows shooting out the front of the gun! Oh well. Next time I will try it the way you suggested. Makes sense that it should grow toward the front. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Denny - glad you like it! I hot glued the slide to a piece of 1 x 3 hardwood about 8" long. I was afraid of squeezing it in the vise and having a problem with the slide fit. Works well for me and alcohol releases the glue like magic. Others use some pretty cool holding gizmos that I have seen on this forum lately. Hope that helps.

Great work David... looks great for a first go at it, and I Like the outline on the Kimber like J. Hayes mentioned
the border is nice and thick and scrolls look nice, a bit on the large side but well executed. Overall a great Start David, can't wait to see the next one

I think it will be quite a while before I muster the nerve to engrave a gun... most Likely one of my own to start with and not a customers.... Good Job
