Ok here is the latest bump in the road, I have learned my lesson, the revolver was disassembled and then I realized some time later that I needed to remove the sear (i hope I spelled that right) and sear spring from the hammer. I placed them in a separate ziploc bag, now I cannot find them, my mistake was I never placed them with the other parts, I put them away so well I've given up looking.

I figured I could call Rossi and order the parts but they will not send me the parts I have to pay somewhere around 100.00 bucks to send it in, bench time and the parts. Ok something I can live with.

Here is the BUT, they say if any of the alterations affect the integrity of the firearm they will have to replace it at my cost. (I know that's not an issue) but who knows how they evaluate things, and since the gun is not original finish anymore I'm afraid they might want to slap me with refinish charge(this might not be all that bad)

The thing is that this is a cheap priced gun to begin with and if they decide to charge me for stuff I know works just fine, it will probably be cheaper to buy a new one.

I know, I know I F#4ked up.

Please advise its a Rossi 38 Special model R35102 production year 2006, with a integrated lock system.

Carlos,How many time I spent crawling around the floor looking for screws, pins, springs,I place white sheet under the vise when taking a gun a part to catch any parts that will hit the floor,it works for me. J.J.

I used to keep a piece of very tight weaved carpet on my workbench where I disassemble small items. The carpet kept the parts from "flying" off the bench. Above that area I had peg board that held labeled plastic bags of the small parts. Those days are long gone, I can't see well enough and my hands shake too much to mess with that "stuff". Now I let someone else make my mistakes.

Carlos...
I would check out eBay and also Gunbroker as they have many many gun parts.
I am at a point in my engraving career that I can take apart just about any gun with my eyes closed.

I'll echo dogcatcher.....The carpet works great. For really small parts that I know will be problems, I'll sometimes tape down a clear plastic bag or sheet over my work area. Also get some of the larger "pick up" magnets and mount them on long handles for sweeping floors/benches. They work great at "finding" the small parts you send flying. Added benefits: they'll also suck up a lot of the metal chips you've made or find that lost screw/spring that made it into your dog's coat (LONG story there).
For your baggie idea, don't forget to throw a small note into the bag to help you remember where the parts came from. As Ben Franklin said, "Commit to paper so you're mind can forget."

I prefer medium stick, double sided tape to hold my small parts.
Flip over one end, stick to your work surface.
Once the job is finished, pull and toss.
The white tape makes identifying really small pieces EASY!

I have a cardboard box laid on its side that I do disassembly in. It limits the area I have to search to just the box.

But Carlos didnt lose it during disassembly. He put them in a safe place. So safe he can't even find them.

Carlos,
Steve has been going through some back and hip surgery problems, so he might be a bit slow getting to it, but if he does not get back to you soon let me know and I'll give him a call.
