Andy. The sanding pencils your looking at are rather large for hobos in my opinion. I have tried them. And 320 would be pretty aggressive for my taste. Your not trying to wittle away the background. You cand do that faster and cleaner with a flat graver. The goal in my opinion is to smooth out the background after you have done your graver work. I didnt have a lot of luck at that either (compared to sandpaper and a chopstick). The sanding sticks were talking about are for sale on chris DeCamillis's web site. They are handy tools.
